Grace Theological Seminary currently offers two accredited online programs and are transitioning our two other existing distance ed programs to the online format. During the transition period a mixture of both online and distance ed courses will be available.
Previously we offered a total of four different accredited distance ed seminary programs. These distance education seminary programs were designed for those who desired high quality seminary education without the expense of traveling or relocating. Beginning in January, 2008 these programs were begun to be migrated to the online format, beginning with the MA in Local Church Ministry and MA Intercultural Studies. During this transition period two classes will be added to the online program during each semester and one class during the summer. |

Students that only desire to begin take a few seminary courses without completing the entire application process may do so simply by completing the unclassified student form. This form may be available online, please check the seminary web site. This process allows students to take up to four seminary classes before they apply and are accepted to the program. CERTIFICATE IN BIBLICAL STUDIES and CERTIFICATE IN INTERCULTURAL STUDIES- 30 Hours
The Certificate in Biblical Studies and Certificate in Intercultural Studies is awarded upon completion of a 30-hour curriculum that emphasizes theology and biblical studies. It is designed especially for those without an undergraduate degree. A minimum of two years of college level education is required for admission, unless this qualification is waived by special action of the Admissions Committee.
PURPOSE OF THE PROGRAM
The one-year Certificate in Biblical Studies and Certificate in Intercultural Studies programs are designed to
meet the needs of those whose academic preparation does not qualify them for more extended study, or
whose personal circumstances make a longer course impossible or inadvisable. These programs are intended
for those individuals who desire to serve the local church or a mission’s staff as lay persons or as support
personnel, and may be completed either residentially or by distance education.
HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS
The Certificate programs require 30 semester hours of approved course work. The program requirements are suggested, but a great deal of flexibility is allowed so that the student may select the classes that assist in the achieving of personal goals and future ministry needs.

MASTER OF ARTS IN LOCAL CHURCH MINISTRY - 48 Hours
MASTER OF ARTS IN INTERCULTURAL STUDIES- 48 Hours
MASTER OF ARTS IN LOCAL CHURCH MINISTRY - 48 Hours
PURPOSE OF THE PROGRAM
The Master of Arts in Local Church Ministry is a program designed for those who are interested in enhancing their ministry involvement in the local church. Many such students are unable to arrange their schedules and/or locations to allow for traditional seminary classes. Other students are already involved in a vocational ministry and desire to advance their training but do not have the opportunity to come to seminary to pursue a Master’s level of education. While Grace Theological Seminary believes that the optimum preparation for the senior pastorate is the Master of Divinity degree, the Master of Ministry does provide advanced training in Bible, theology and ministry skills, yielding a better-prepared servant for the local church. All of the courses are also able to be transferred into the Master of Divinity program. The Master of Arts in Local Church Ministry is currently the only program that we offer through distance education.
HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS
The Master of Arts in Local Church Ministry program consists of 48 credit hours. The classes are completed through correspondence with the seminary. The classes are offered in five different formats. They are Online, DVD, CD, ITS, Module, or Prepared Self Study. In the DVD, CD, and ITS (Institute of Theological Studies) format, the student watches or listens to the class at home and also does the homework and reading at home. When the classes and homework are completed the student sends them to the seminary to be filed and graded. When it comes time to take an exam for a course, the student must find a non-family member to be a proctor to be present while they complete the exam. Classes follow the normal fall and spring semester schedule and must be completed by the end of the semester. The ITS courses may be a different title than the one present in our curriculum. It is important to note that three of the classes are offered as one-week module classes. Three weeks is the entire amount of time a student needs to be on campus to finish the program. The Prepared Self Studies are similar to the DVD and CD format in that assignments and exams are sent back and forth between the seminary and the student, but there are no required DVD's or CD's to watch for these classes.
ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS
To enroll in the distance education program, the student must possess a baccalaureate degree (or its equivalent in the case of international students) from an approved institution. Students having less than a 2.5 cumulative average in their undergraduate work may be admitted on academic restriction. For further information on admission requirements and procedures, consult the Grace Theological Seminary catalog or call the Office of Graduate Admissions.
Students accepted in the Master of Arts in Local Church Ministry through the distance education program are expected to be involved in the ministry of their local church and endorsed by the church leadership. Active involvement in discipling or mentoring is required for completion of the program.
ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS
A cumulative grade point average of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale) or above for the entire course of study is required for graduation. No more than eight credit hours of graduate study will be accepted in transfer-only if from approved schools. Advanced Standing or Prior Learning credits do not apply to this program.

MASTER OF ARTS IN INTERCULTURAL STUDIES- 48 Hours
PURPOSE OF THE PROGRAM
A major part of ministry in God’s work today is in an intercultural setting, either in international missions
where it is cross-cultural, or in a person’s home country where it is multicultural. To prepare people for this
kind of ministry, Grace Theological Seminary offers a Master of Arts in Intercultural Studies that is intended
to equip students for cross-cultural or multicultural ministry. It is not designed to prepare individuals for the
senior pastorate.
HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS
The Master of Arts in Intercultural Studies is a 48 hour degree program. The core curriculum allows up
to 24 hours of the program to be completed off campus as distance education (or online format) classes. The concentration
comprises 18 hours in module or semester format. The six elective hours can be done in modular, semester, or
independent study format depending on the courses selected. Four modules are offered each summer in May
to accommodate students in full-time ministry. In two summers, missionaries can complete 24 of the required
48 hours.
ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS
To enroll in the distance education program, the student must possess a baccalaureate degree (or its equivalent in the case of international students) from an approved institution.
