I. Qualifications:

  • Must be a born again believer.

Oak Street Baptist Church is located in Burlington, Iowa, a city with many beautiful parks on the bluffs overlooking the Mississippi River and Illinois. Our church reaches out into SE Iowa and Western Illinois with 120-150 in weekly worship attendance. Our church was established over 140 years ago, but we eagerly desire to continue to preach and teach the gospel to the lost and make disciples who can in turn continue making disciples. We prayerfully seek the Lord’s replacement for our vacant Senior Pastor position. We seek a senior pastor who will be a godly leader with an approachable spirit who will shepherd the flock with humility and gentleness and will lead by example. He needs to be able to preach and teach scripture clearly, make it applicable to every day life, live it himself, and teach the congregation to also live
out God’s Word so we can impact our community and world. Though we have no other full time pastoral staff in place but have many volunteers effectively carrying out a variety of responsibilities in youth, children, adult, women and men’s ministry, music, CE, etc.
Preferred Job Credentials: Minimum of Masters in Theology or Divinity from an evangelical Seminary, ordained, fully compatible with NAB Doctrinal statement, minimum of 10 years of experience as Senior Pastor or as an Associate Pastor of a large church. Must be a man who exhibits the godly character qualities outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9, 1 Peter 5:1-4 and Acts 6:4. Prefer married, never divorced, stability in tenure, able to relate well to a wide range of
physical ages and spiritual maturities in the congregation, and relate well in a small mid-western community.

Primary Responsibilities: The Senior Pastor’s primary responsibility is to equip the saints for the work of the ministry. He will be in charge of all worship services where he will preach/teach the Word of God so that the congregation may grow in their understanding and application of the Word of God. In doing so he must accurately interpret the Scriptures and teach Biblical truths from the
historic Baptist perspective. His ministry also includes helping protect the flock from false teaching and to unite the leadership in the shepherding the flock.

Associate Pastor

Job Description:

Leadership

Provide leadership and direction in the English ministry consistent with the over-arching vision and direction of WHCC. Guide the Meta lead team in developing and executing ministry plans and events. Train, develop, and empower leaders to live spirit-filled lives utilizing their gifts to do the work of the ministry. Manage ministry administrative matters with the help of office staff.


Teaching & Preaching:

As primary preacher in rotation with other pastoral staff, teach biblically and relevantly in the Meta English service to share the journey of life transformation in Christ. Advise the Meta Pathway (English adult Sunday School) coordinator in leading the ministry team to plan, coordinate and teach Meta Pathway classes. Small Group Ministry

Missions & Evangelism

Equip and motivate the congregation to witness for Christ and serve the community in an intentional, culturally-relevant way. Mobilize people to support and participate in the mission and evangelism effort of WHCC both in Houston and around the world.
