Berean Baptist Church

Due to the calling of God of our former lead pastor into missionary service, Berean Baptist Church in Portage, Michigan, is seeking a pastor to be the leader of our ministry team. We are a church of about seven hundred members. We have a strong missionary emphasis and are in the process of planting a new church in a growing suburb nearby. Portage is a sister city to Kalamazoo in southwest Michigan, placing it midway between Detroit and Chicago. Portage has a very nice website at www.portagemi.com. Western Michigan is only a few miles form the church.

The man we believe God would have for us would truly love the Lord and be excited to preach and teach from a strong, heartfelt love for god's Word. This man should have at least a Master's Degree in Ministry related studies. He should have about ten years of experience in church work with at least four years of active preaching responsibilities. He would fully embrace our Doctrinal Statement and live a lifestyle that would comply with the Biblical standards set forth in 1 Timothy 3:17 and Titus 1:5-9.

We are looking for a pastor gifted in visionary thinking who will be comfortable with a team app4roach, exhibiting skilled leadership of our staff , deacons and congregation. We expect messages and lessons to be evangelistic, edifying and promoting sanctification. This man should be very comfortable conducting weddings, funerals, baptisms and communion. He should be skilled as an administrator and able to give wise counsel on church finances.

Major Areas of Responsibility:

Teaching and Preaching:

· Emphasizes expository teaching and preaching including challenges for practical life applications.

· Projects an inspiring vision for reaching the local community, the region and the world for Christ.

Prayer

· Demonstrates a personal dependence on prayer

· Leads the congregation in nurturing an effective corporate prayer ministry

Shepherding

· Shepherds the church family proactively

· Undertakes an effective visitation ministry

· Provides council for those in need.

Officiates

· At weddings, funerals, baptisms, The Lords Supper and other special services

Administration

· Coordinates functions of church Boards and Committees

· Fosters unity among ministries through active presence and participation

· Delegates tasks and encourages the congregation to minister according to their spiritual gifts.

Commitment

· To the core values, Constitution and Statement of Faith of North Leverett Baptist Church.

The preferred candidate will:

· Hold a Masters of Divinity Degree

· Be an Ordained minister

· Have 5 or more years of experience as a pastor

North Leverett Baptist Church is located in Leverett Massachusetts, a rural community in Western Massachusetts. We are an independent Baptist Church with a membership of 130 and an average church attendance of 120 people. The pastoral position is the one full time position that the church employs.
