Dr. Rata comes to Grace Theological Seminary from Beeson Divinity School in Birmingham, Alabama, where he served as Assistant Professor of Divinity. Before that he taught at Trinity International University in Deerfield, Illinois, and Emmanuel Baptist University in Oradea, Romania. He also pastored churches in California and Alabama. He is a member of the Evangelical Theological Society and the Institute for Biblical Research and has presented papers at the national conventions of the Evangelical Theological Society.

7 Questions with Dr. Rata:

 

1) What are some of your interests and hobbies outside of teaching and ministry?

Golf, soccer, & piano.

 

2) Who are the members of your immediate family?

My wife Carmen has a degree in Social Work and Theology from the University of Bucharest, and is currently raising our children.  Our son Timothy is 8 years old and enjoys playing the piano and playing basketball and golf.  Our son Nicholas is 4 and loves to play with cars.

 

3) What is one of your most memorable experiences in ministry?

I had the privilege of pastoring churches in California and Alabama.  The most memorable experience was baptizing 4 young people during the 2nd year of my ministry in California.  

 

4) What was the topic of your Dmin, Th.D, or Ph.D dissertation?

The covenant motif in Jeremiah’s Book of Comfort: Textual and Intertextual Studies.

 

5) What classes do you teach?  Which is your favorite to teach?

  • Old Testament Theology
  • Hebrew I
  • Hebrew II
  • Hebrew Exegesis
  • Biblical Archeology. & Physical Geography Of the ANE

I love to teach the Hebrew exegesis courses.  

 

6) Outside the Bible, what are some of the most influential books in your life?

  • The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis
  • The Singer by Calvin Miller
  • On the Anvil by Max Lucado

 

7) What is your most recent area of research?

I’m currently writing a commentary on Ezra-Nehemiah.
